Meditation - Valuing God's Presence
Biblical Meditation (John 17)
Meditation is simply the art of thinking deeply. So, when we meditate on Scripture, we are going to reflect on, contemplate and think deeply about what the particular passage of the Bible is saying and what God is saying through it to us.
This month we are talking about training our hearts to be fascinated with Jesus. We can develop this through thinking about who He says we are and who He says He wants to be for us. One of the great passages in Scripture which does this is John 17. This is Jesus’ last moments with the disciples before his crucifixion. He just finished teaching them for the last time and now he prays for them and for us. The first 19 verses he is praying for the birthing of the church. Then he shifts and he begins praying for the church throughout history (20-26). These 7 verses give us insight into who we are supposed to be and who Jesus is.
Pay special attention to:
1) The characteristics and nature of God.
2) Who Jesus says we are and what we are like
3) the relationship Jesus says we have with God.
Then begin thinking about those things. Try to imagine what they would look like. Pray that those things would become realities in your life.
(For example: v26 “I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known” Jesus reveal the Father to my heart)
