How This Started
I've taught high school and middle school math for a really long time in all sorts of contexts: public, private, and charter. For 6 of those years, I had the opportunity to teach at a small Christian school in northern Michigan. They hired me to teach high school math and middle school Bible. Math I had done before--not a problem. Teaching Bible kept me awake at night. Not kidding. What if students ended up hating the Bible because I was a bad teacher? What if students misunderstood my role to teach them content and thought that's all there was to reading the Bible or worse yet, life with God?
My principal kindly allowed me to incorporated some aspects of my devotional life into class. Every Friday we did something different. We prayed for each other. We laid on the floor and read our Bibles while listening to worship music. We learned how to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit for ourselves. Within a month or two, a group of high school students approached me wanting to learn these things as well. We carved out time once or twice a week to meet together. This webpage is the result of the meetings with those high school students. |
I have several loves in my life: Jesus, my wife, my kiddos, math, art and coffee.
...and anything shiny with a power button. |
